I am a 21 year old artist and small business owner from Maryland. For as long as I can remember, creativity has given me life. When it has been awhile since I have created, I feel separated from myself. Drawing and painting allow me to process and express my emotions when I don’t have the words. As I am creating my abstract and surrealist art, I want to make images that cause people to see the world and humans differently. I want to encourage people to be more empathetic, imaginative, and loving. My featured art dives into the complexity of human experiences, depression, and love.
Over the past year as life grew more difficult, I have painted more than ever before. It is amazing what can come out of the darkest moments. Last summer, I began selling custom art and art prints of my original work in exchange for donations to anti-racist work and/ or covid-19 relief. I truly believe that art and empathy go hand in hand. As I am finishing up my social work degree, I have been able to combine my two biggest passions: social justice and art. Now, I have just opened up my own Etsy shop: “Art is Empathy” where 25% of my profit will be donated to an amazing organization I volunteer with that provides food, clothing, and other resources to people who need them. I hope to keep creating and working to make the world a better and more beautiful place for all.
